my top mounts are shot, the bearing has come away from the rubber. You can get solid top mounts and i a m thinking of getting some, so i will never have this problem again. They are the same price as original alfa ones.
I like a firm ride and am not bothered if my fillings fall out. I have koni sport top adjustables, eibach springs, powerflex bushes and 195 50 15 going to a 45 15 soon aswell as a strut brace.
comments anyone.

I would be interested in how harsh a ride it would be Al, I understand that too harsh a ride causes the lock catches you mentioned in the other thread to crack the door skin the lock attaches to.

Thanks for the warning oggie, now I know about it I will keep an eye on the door catches, might even put washers on all of them to prevent it.
If they turn out to be too harsh I’m sure someone would snap them up off me for track usage or the like, wink wink. However I don’t think I will find them too harsh. I will be ordering the middle bits to accomodate early shocks with my Koni top adjustables in them. You watch, I’ll be eating my words after fitting them.

I just spoke to them to find out if they are in stock and he asked for measurements of the 4 holes ect ect, as there’s has something like 24 holes blah blah and talked about adjustable camber, blah blah, he couldn’t remember how he made some for Leda blah blah. There was me thinking, as they list a part number for Alfa 33's they would know. I just wanted solid top mounts for a 33! Have to wait until Monday now.
Need some advice on whether or not to get adjustables, as my thinking of this is that because I’m running normal springs and koni shocks, not coil-overs, where the springs are narrower. If the camber angle is changed then the shock isn’t moving central in the spring, it will be at an angle, unlike coil-overs, where the spring moves as well, therefore keeping the shock in the centre of the spring. I'm thinking that this, on a standard spring, will load the spring unevenly

Has anyone thought of putting the ser2 top mounts onto the ser3? I ask this because I think the ser2 are a better design, being made completely of rubber. The ser3 have a bearing in the middle which sits inside a solid metal block of metal encased in rubber, which pulls away from the rubber. I need to get measurements but was thinking of using the bearing from the ser3 and squeeze it into the ser2 top mount. If the ser3 bearing is the same size as the ser2 hole I am laughing.

I borrowed a top mount off Paul.H Thanks Paul. I took a few pics of ser 2 and ser 3 top mounts, made a template and emailed comp brakes. Now the waiting game.

I spoke to them the other day and emailed them several pictures of all parts of the top mount. I spoke to them yesterday after re emailing the template in black on a white background, they were still unable to print it out.
I printed it out, cut it out and it fitted perfectly.
They asked if it would be possible to make the top mount round, save machining off the 4 flat edges.
Does any one know if this would fit up inside the wheel arch,

I won’t be able to look until the weekend.

I spoke to the alfa guys that race prepair our litle 33's and he thinks its round up inside. Alfa probably used a square piece of metal and rounded the edges to fit.

I'm getting no where fast, I'm calling them 2 times a week and getting fobbed off! They asked if they could have a top mount the other day, wtf? I cant send mine off as i wont be able to drive my car and im not risking sending someone elses, incase it gets lost!
So i was thinking of 1 or 2 things but would like some advice please.
1st option is to use the ser 1 solid rubber top mount with a shim on the ser 3 shock so it will fit.
2nd option, is as above but with the bearing from ser 3 top mount.
Is the only reason the ser 3 have bearings in them due to the power steering, if not will it be ok to run without bearings?

I am asking all this because my ser 3 top mounts are knackered and need replacing but i think, so do others, that the ser 3 top mounts are a crap design.
Thanks Alan.

I have just bought these,

being sent to me on monday

Iain, i will let you know how they are, someone also said they might be too harsh for the road.

I should have my front koni's on and strutbrace on Tuesday, weather permitting. It is a shame i wont get the solid top mounts at the same time.
