Hi Guys,
I built a 1.7 8v carb engine using 16v dished pistons which gave me 10.4:1 CR.
The pistons and bottom end were completely stock. We used C&B Road Max cams.
A head gasket has blown and we are looking at taking it further with the heads; AH Motorsport big valve race pack, gas flowing and porting as well as possibly 44 IDF's.
Using stock pistons and bottom end, would we get any kind of longevity out of the engine if we didn't go above say 7k RPM?
Many thanks.![Smile](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) _________________ Alfa 33 16v (running 8v on carbs) |

I have an Ah motorsport race engine in my car (1.8 8v on 44idf's) and I have now clocked 20k in it and it still pulls strong, I just change the oil every 1000miles and have the belts and tensioners done every 2/3 years. Adie recommends using valvoline 20-50w mineral race oil. I can only rev to 7800rpm any higher and the standard 16v crank won't cope unless you replace with a steel one , dry sumped. Good luck. ![Cool](images/smiles/icon_cool.gif) _________________ PHAT 33 |

Thanks dude. Your engine with 44's sounds awesome.
How much have you got at the dyno?
Any idea how high I could rev with standard pistons and rods? _________________ Alfa 33 16v (running 8v on carbs) |

When it was 1st installed it pulled 197bhp, using omex ecu , hand made manifold and free flow exhaust, a coil pack to replace the dizzy. Its probably more like 187bhp now. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mkrpr60xzfI
I have no idea how much you could rev to but if your doing all the heads I would consider replacing the pistons for some J E pistons from the states. Im afraid the search of power is endless, Im going to save to replace the bottom end for the 2 litre conversion next! mad I know. _________________ PHAT 33 |

I've been chatting to a guy who has a 1.7 bottom end he built up using oversize pistons, and some 16v components. was built for a race car which was totalled in first race
he wants £100 for it. was gonna get it myself and go down the 1600 oversquare root, but funds are limited and i have other things to fix first.
do you want his number? |

Hi Joelomint, good to catch up with you at the weekend, if a bit brief. Your gal was cool too. Shame you didn't come to Fletching as they set the fireworks to music, which was neat. _________________ Owner's Club 33 Registrar. Now from P4 & S2 1.7 QV
