based on how the trailing arms act on the rear axle, causing it to rotate along its axis, acting as an antiroll bar itself. Is the following going to hinder that action or assist, whats your views?

Hi
It would act as a further anti roll bar. Might have a slightly different effect as it will cause the bushes to be compressed differently. Also, with its position that bar will try and bend as well as twist.
All the best

I think that the best setup would be if the anti roll bar was setup the other way around; meaning hooked on the links but also hooked on the beam axle.

Thats my antiroll and i must say that it works pretty well. Also ti can be pretty mych adjustable by changing the place where it is bolted. if you transfer it near axel then it becomes stiffer since the angle of suspension between the 2 wheels gets biggerand therefore more antiroll effect.
As for the possition i dotn think it would work the same if it was oriented the other way since now with every angle change the whole body of the bar resists so more effect on both wheels. If it was the other way , in parallel and on the axel then only the vertical part would resist to the change of the angle and not all the bar so less antiroll effect.
I must say that the rear is really pinned on the ground and with suspension of 16v 33 on my Sprint with 3mm lower springs it if fantastic on cornering. I gave replace also rear drums with disk calipers from 33 16v on the old axel but thats another story...
Here is the antiroll bar on the car..
And thats how it lookd after i painted it..

Nice remark , actually you are the first to notice that.
Well lucozade bottle was used in order to drain the brake fluids from the line since i upgraded also rear drums to disks and also used high presure tubes. I have the complete guide with pictures which also can be used for 33's that want to install rear disk from 16v without changing the axel... |

The purist in me says that either the bar or its ends should be mounted on something fixed i.e. either the body or the beam. The way that it is mounted now I think would give quite progressive anti-roll? but would give less than a rigid installation? It should help lateral location due to the 4 attachment points but wont it be putting a lot of stress on the wats linkage rods?
When my rallycar was tested by Cars & Car Conversions many years ago one of their recommendations was to fit a rear anti-roll bar. Never got round to doing it so would be very interested in knowing what this one is off.

So far it works excellent and with others that are susing the same type antiroll i have the same feedback.
Advantages:
- Easy to make , easy to install
- It can be adjusted very easily by just moving the antiroll close to the axel
-You can not find any stronger place to mount it . I am guessing that rods are mounted on the strongest point of the floor so why dont use it ..
-Reassempling the rear suspension is easy since the antiroll is on the suspension so no additional work needed.
-There is no stress on the rods since they are quite strong and in addition with stiffer coils the angle difference between the 2 rods is less that with a soft suspension.

As they say if it aint broke dont fix it.
What did the anti-roll bar come off or did you make it?
Where did the clamps come from?

This is was manufactured in a blacksmith shop from a steel bar with the measures of an old Alfa mechanic that used to race in the 70s and 80s with alfasuds and gtv's. This particulalr one was removed from a crashed 33 along with axel and rear brakes. I used the rods with the antiroll bar on my axel and i replaced rear drums with disks , a direct swap. i had the whole procedure with photos in alfabb and alfaowner. I am guessing thar the clams are not something special , you probably can find it in any h/w store.
I can measuere the dimensions of this bar and send them to you if you want to try. It is something that will not cost much to fabricate...
