can anyone tell me where the cam belt timing marks are on a 1.7ie hydraulic valve engine plus is the water pump a right pig to change?
P.S. i gave up on the 4 stud struts when i happened across some 3 studders ![Smile](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) _________________ messybloke |

Hi
Water pump is almost always a pig to change.
Timing marks are viewed through the small round holes in the cam belt covers over tha cam pulley wheels. There is a tooth with a small V shaped cutout either side of it.
All the best

Thanks, i did change the pump on a Sud once and i had hoped that it had been improved, should have known better.
Hopfully i wont have to resort to the method used by my mate serving in the army in Germany. eg a rope and a land rover ![Exclamation](images/smiles/icon_exclaim.gif) _________________ messybloke |

Yes MessyBloke... the water pump is still a hammer and wood job I'm afraid.

Not directly with a hammer!
I hammer a solid piece of wood against it all round till the seal is broken. I've never had a problem, but then I've always done it with the engine out. _________________ Owner's Club 33 Registrar. Now from P4 & S2 1.7 QV
