hi,

it's done by adding washers below the spring in the oil pump release valve.
the rule of thumb is 1mm thickness increases pressure by 1 bar.
i would not recommend increasing pressure.
- high pressure will damage crankshafts bearing
- oil pump will wear quicker
- crankshafts plug will likely have a tendancy to pop out
and oil pressure will not increase at all when hot since the release valve is closed below 4000rpm anyway.
if you need more lube go for increased flow pump, not increase pressure.

regards,
zp

nice points there zp,
also to add
- oil will easier escape on front camshaft oil seals. that is side wre camshaft belts are and they dont like oil that much.

thanx for the advice
i have heard that people who race 33s raise the pressure
i wanted to do it because i am a bit concerned about the oil flow through the small veins on the head.
i am in the process of rebuilding the heads off a 16v, i bought the car with a slipped belt, i replaced the belts and retimed it first just in case i was lucky but it still made a loud tapping noise so i thought ok it must be a bent valve- having took the heads apart the valves are ok but there was evidence of the one inlet valve hitting the piston and also 3 of the inlet valves were coked up on the inside. so i have bought new followers as i have heard they can be damaged instead of the valves.
how can i make the oil pump flow more oil?
i just want to do all i can now while the engine is apart so that i dont have to take it apart again.
cheers steve
