Just a quick simple question. Which is the best sealant to use on the carburettor base gaskets. Anyone? ![Question](images/smiles/icon_question.gif) _________________ Owner's Club 33 Registrar. Now from P4 & S2 1.7 QV

Yes I saw you had. Six bids and the winner was Stedee. Well done. If it had stayed at 100 quid I was going to consider it as it's only 25 min away from here, but I just picked one up from Portsmouth with an electrical fault for 100 - the car runs for three minutes then fries its ECU - does have 4 spanking brand new pirelli 6000s on good condition alloys if all else fails. Good luck with yours.
Anyways Stedee.... can anyone tell me what sealant I should use at the base of carburettors ![Question](images/smiles/icon_question.gif) _________________ Owner's Club 33 Registrar. Now from P4 & S2 1.7 QV

Right, that sounds good, I've got some of that. Can anybody corroborate this - black rubbery stuff.
(Good luck with the P4 Stedee - wonder how many are left in the country?) _________________ Owner's Club 33 Registrar. Now from P4 & S2 1.7 QV

Paul,
I can only recommend Hermetite Instant Gasket from my experience.
It's fuel, oil and water resistant and does the job...... only thing is it's bright orange!!! ![Shocked](images/smiles/icon_eek.gif) |

Do you mean on the gaskets either side of the plastic base plate under the carbs? Is it really needed? I don't think I used any! ![Shocked](images/smiles/icon_eek.gif) _________________ Porsche 550 spyder replica with Alfa Sprint 1.7 engine |

I use Hylomar which used to be specified by Rolls Royce as a non setting jointing compound. It is not cheap but is really fuel resistant as a joint I took apart today proved when it looked as good as new, was still sticky and came apart easily. To make things colourful it is Blue.

Hi mark, I've actually got 3 P4s. My red everyday driver that has a rear wheel bearing going and I think I'm going to change the whole axle , a grey P4 which I've just put the engine back in, but not the ancilleries yet and another red P4 which I bought for 100 quid because the owner thought it was blowing ECUs when it would seem that it is actually just a failed relay (better let him know), however I've just found that the clutch is knackered and it needs some welding underneath, so is it worth it (78,000 miles, new tires and alloys, new brake pipes and handbrake cables, new exhaust middle section and new battery and good condition up top) No money at the mo' so it will have to wait a bit. _________________ Owner's Club 33 Registrar.
