What would be the most common causes for mixture being too rich on a 33 16V apart from lambda probe (mine’s brand new) and AFM (I have two and both seem to be working the same (proper?) way)?

Could it be a faulty engine temp sender or throttle position switch?

thanks

I don't know about the 16v, but on my 8v IE there's a mixture screw on the AFM.

Hi,

Do you have problems in cold or warm starting? Does the engine start easily without having to turn it many times?

If yes then your temp sensor is faulty and should be replaced. This sensor varies its readings depending on the temp. of coolant and this info is transmitted to the ECU which deals about the mixture.

Regards

engine starts easily. that is until the plugs become all covered with grime. then the engine becomes rough and won't start at all (especially in cold weather).
will try to replace the temp sensor. thanks for the replies.

Hi... Very Happy
Besides the temperature sensor, check also your injectors, and have them cleaned...
The TPS can also be doing this, so check it also for signal and position...
The AFM and lambda probe can also cause this type of problems, but you already have check those...

Good luck
