was nipping around the country lanes in bath this evening, when i heard a funny noise from the gearbox. didnt think too much of it until i changed from 3rd to 4th, and then...nothing!
basically, i have 3rd gear only (great for the lanes, not so great when u have a 10 mile journey home!). all of the other gears have gone except 3rd. not being overly technical, have the linkages gone or is my gearbox screwed? if its the latter, anyone got one cheap i can buy from them. if its the linkages is this an expensive job?
all help appreciated.
(p.s. does anyone know why this always happens at the start of a bank holiday and not the end!!!!) |

If it all feels a bit loose sounds almost definately like linkage which is very easy to fix. Basically there is a bar going from the bottom of your gearstick to the back of the gearbox. Very common for a split pin to fall out here. Pull out the leather and rubber from around the gearstick to see first joint. Get underneath near back of gearbox to see second. Have a spare series 3 gearbox here in Sussex for anyone for £50. _________________ Owner's Club 33 Registrar. Now from P4 & S2 1.7 QV

we had three linkages go on two seperate 33s over the years - it's a real weak point. My Suds are OK tho ![Laughing](images/smiles/icon_lol.gif) _________________ (00=\°/=00) (00=\°/=00)
