The T2 tester blinks out a 1-2-2-3 code on my car meaning "The heated lambda probe regulator inner adjuster reaches the minimum or the maximum value of correction.".
I replaced the old lambda probe with a brand new Bosch one, but I still get the same error code (even after resetting the ECU a couple of times). The engine seems to be running smoother, but not a major improvement.
I'm sure the tester is OK because I played around with connectors to the AFM and the idle speed actuator, which immediately triggered some more error codes. After resetting the ECU I again get the 1223. _________________ 33 1.7 16V is no more (sob)

If you were to subscribe to the alfa digest, there has been
a recent thread on the same error code (but on 164s - the usa
did not see the 33)
The guy had done the same as you, but found a slight crack
in the exhaust manifold, and some air leaks in the intake.
Even after doing all of this and replacing the O2 sensor
the 1223 code still appeared.
He eventually traced it to a faulty fuel injector.
The point is the error code shows the cat is not working
efficiently, the cause can be air intake, fuel delivery
or spent gas issues.
He was glad it was not the AFM or ECU!
So in order of expense
check a air leaks
b exhaust split
c AFM
d injectors
e ECU
I assume that you are resetting the ECU by disconnecting
the battery for 15-30 minutes

Thanks for the tips. Will do the inspections. I forgot to mention that the cat is removed in my car. Can that cause the fault code to repeat itself?
I have been also advised to try adjusting the fuel mixture by using the dial under the AFM lid. The idea came after measuring the newly installed lambda probe, which seemed to linger at max and min values for too long. Has anyone tried adjusting the mixture that way? _________________ 33 1.7 16V is no more (sob)

That explains it!
You need to jury-rig the sensor (disconnect it!)
It will never give the right reading without the cat!
