VDO oil temp sensor?

This will be something for the guys who have one. The sensor is mounted into the oil sump but the reading doesn't go higher than 50-60°C so I suppose that the sensor is broken cause it's practically impossible that the oil stays that cool.
Do some of you have the sensor also there and how much should the readings be when hot. I'd like to put the sensor in the engine itself but where to put it then?
I really 'd like to know how hot my oil gets, as it's like the life-juice from the engine...
