Hey guys, thought I'd share some of the things I've been up to lately.
Throttle body before :
And after restoring :
Here is the restored inlet manifold :
And look away if you have a faint heart :
More to follow!

He painted them!
All looks fantastic.
Dropped my engine today and changed the box. It's back in, and the crossmembers back on, but then i'd had enough for today. Totally single handed with 2 trolley jacks and my Dads magic engine trolley from when we built the Minari. My level of restoration was to wipe the heads with a rag!
I will clean all the pipes and wires as i reconnect them which will make it look cleanish i hope.
Have a couple of pics on my phone will upload tomorrow.

Sounds like quite a lot of stuff for one day John!
Yep... they're painted. Although cleaned very thoroughly first!
And I used the good stuff this time!

Nice work mate!
That's going to be one clean engine bay once you're finished. There's alot of bits to paint in there though I seem to remember!!! |

Well Ade...
There was no way they were going to look anything like that, what with the state they were originally in.
Maybe a slight swizz.... but I challenge anyone to say for certain that the coating isn't metal upon seeing it.

Bobbber they look fantastic.
The only way I have ever got ally back to looking something like that is by using industrial ultrasonic tanks and I dont like putting critical ally parts in them for that long.
I couldnt tell from the photo's they had been painted.
I usually avoid painting stuff like that as it p's me off if the paint starts lifting later.

Ade,
That's why I used the expensive stuff mate! £12 a can, and there are lots of reports of it being still on there 5 years after an application on the web.

Thanks John! I'm really going for the sexy look!
I'll post a few more photos up tomorrow... Work has actually progressed much better than I'd have hoped in the last week or so.

Reckon I'll only get a small part of the car to that standard before SPA... so you'll be able to concentrate on the "not so good" bits! _________________ Fiat Bravo 165 Sport |

Lidl actually. Don't make fun... they are really decent spanners. I was so pleased with them (after actually just buying them cus they were cheap) that I bought two sets in the end!

Right then... a few more photos.
Firstly... here's the engine during a good cleanup :
The main block will have a good coating of Gold Engine Enamel shortly. The heads will be tarted up with some 'Aluminium Lookalike' spray.
This is the gearbox during cleaning... look at the dirt removed by "Marine Clean" in the bowl!
Here is part of the cooling system, restored with some Grey Detailing paint :
A "Nearly New" radiator... waiting to go on :
Restored Oil/Crankcase vapour seperator unit :
More manifold photos, attached to the throttle bodies now :
Paul Hide... I loved your 'up on bricks technique' so much when I saw it at your place the other week... I've kinda copied it. I hope to be able to get the car high enough to get the engine under using this technique :
This paint stripper is angry!!!!
A couple of questions about this little lot now!
How does one get the injectors into the throttle bodies and onto the fuel rail? I've gone purple in the face trying to get them on!!!! I thought about getting a hammer onto them at one point... then cunningly thought against it!!!
I have removed the rubber/foam coating from the plastic parts of the fuel rail... what can I use to replace this? I assume it's required to keep heat away from the fuel inside? I thought about getting some coolant tubing, slitting it lengthways and putting it around the pipes. Then perhaps wrapping it in some tape or something to stop it coming off... any ideas?
Cheerz!

Hi,
Love the 'gold' bits.
You're really going for the brochure engine look aren't you?
You'll have to get that front up pretty high to clear the dipstick tube unless it can be removed somehow.
Keep those pictures coming!
